Czech Republic in Support of Ukraine: Healthcare in Focus

Last week, a representative delegation of doctors and educators from the Dnipropetrovsk region, headed by Deputy Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration Iryna Hrytsay, was in the Czech Republic. Oles Honchar Dnipro National University in Prague was represented by the rector, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Sergiy Okovytyy.

Thus, the official part of the visit started with the International Conference and Exhibition Global Healthcare Initiative for Ukraine, dedicated to the development of medicine, physical rehabilitation and mental health. This large-scale international forum, organized by the Czech Institute of Medical Technologies, brought together representatives of governments, international organizations, businesses and medical institutions from Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Poland, Denmark and other partner countries. The main goal of the meeting is to restore the Ukrainian healthcare system – a common cause that requires strong unity, determination and sustainable solutions. After all, the burden on Ukrainian doctors is currently extreme, as they have to additionally overcome the challenges of wartime – and this in one of the most populous countries in Europe.

The important event was opened by the first ladies of the Czech Republic and Ukraine – Eva Pavlova and Olena Zelenska. Olena Zelenska made a speech in which she thanked the Czech Republic for its support and assistance on the path to saving Ukrainians, their physical and mental state.

Indeed, the Global Healthcare Initiative for Ukraine conference became a unique platform for joint action for the health of Ukrainians. After all, the focus of the subsequent two-day work was a strategic vision for the development of Ukrainian medicine, coordination of international assistance and effective financing. Panel discussions, seminars and startup sessions covered the most pressing topics: from the challenges of military medicine to supporting veterans, rehabilitation and combating antibiotic resistance.

For example, one of the panels “From battles to recovery. Veteran Care and Reintegration” brought together specialists focused on developing strategic solutions for the restoration of the Ukrainian healthcare system, expanding surgical and resuscitation capabilities, implementing innovative technologies in tactical medicine, and addressing the mental health crisis. This discussion panel was very consistent with the systemic approach implemented at Oles Honchar Dnipro National University.
