The Head of the Department is Ischenko Igor Vasilyovych, doctor of political sciences, professor.
The Department of International Relations was founded in 2005 as part of a joint European project TEMPUS/TACIS. The professors, associate professors and lecturers also form the staff of the Department.
The Department of International Relations carries out activity aimed at forming a global outlook of future specialists, implementation of international norms and standards in education and science. The Department trains specialists with fundamental knowledge and basic skills, high level of adaptability in various areas of professional activities.
The Department of international relations is graduating in specialty "International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies". During the training students have educational and industrial practices at leading institutions in the region by profession, and they are given the opportunity to participate in international conferences, contests and more.
The Department operates postgraduate studies to enable talented graduates under the guidance of highly qualified teachers to conduct thorough research on topical problems of international relations.
Scientific activity of the Department of International Relations at the present stage focuses on research of characteristics of modern integration processes in Europe, studying various aspects of transatlantic security system functioning, the role and place of Ukraine in it. Confirmation of a significant scientific potential of the department is output of the collective monograph entitled "The European Union in the modern system of international relations" in 2015.
In 2014-2016 the Department of International Rrelations was the organizer of the second stage of the All-Ukrainian student competition in the specialty "International Relations".
The Department regularly organizes conferences and cooperates with a number of Ukrainian and foreign universities and research centers. In 2015 scientific-practical conference on the topic "Transatlantic Security and the Role of Ukraine" was held, thereby creating a platform for interaction and further cooperation of lecturers, students, graduates of Oles Honchar Dnipropetrovsk National University and experts in the field of transatlantic security and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine.
The Department of International Relations cooperates with the NATO Information and Documentation Centre in Ukraine, in particular, NATO Information Centre in Dnipropetrovsk region was established on the basis of the university. The lecturer of the Department is the coordinator of the EU Information Centre at Oles Honchar Dnipro National University.
Formation of the intellectual development of students in the learning process is including the functioning of student scientific group that encourages students to analyze key international events.
