The Head of the Department is Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Elena Shevtsova.
Banking Department is in the framework of the Economics Faculty. It was founded in July 1994. Since 2000 it is headed by professor Elena Shevtsova. Elena Shevtsova founded a scientific school "Mechanisms of real and financial economic sectors’ management". She is the author of more than 250 scientific and methodical works, including which 11 monographs and 2 manuals. She was awarded with a decoration "High Achiever in Education of Ukraine" (2003). Since 2003 she is a member of Academic Councils, the Chairman of the Specialized Scientific Council (2010-2012).
Three Professors, four Associate Professors and a Senior Lecturer work in the Department; Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Makarenko Julia; Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Semencha Ilona; Ph.D. in Economics, Associate Professor Aksenova Lyudmila; Ph.D. in Economics, Associate Professor Demidenko Vasily; Ph.D. in Economics, Associate Professor Dereza Vyacheslav. The head of the Department is Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Shevtsova Elena. Tutors continuously improve their professional level in compliance training programs and in practical activity of financial institutions.
Banking Department is a graduate chair by specialty 072 Finance, Banking and Insurance (the field of expertise 07-Management and Administration) of Bachelor and Master educational qualification with high residence education, law residence education and night school classes.

Since 1994 the educational laboratory of personal computers with the local network and the Internet has been in operation at the Department. The laboratory has a library of educational and scientific literature on the profile of the Department, which contains many copies of books, manuals and textbooks. Besides, there is an electronic library to prepare students on the banking subject.
The sphere of scientific interests of the Department covers aspects of banking and non-banking financial market segments according to the scientific subject: "Anti crisis management of the financial infrastructure stabilizing in the national economy"; "The strategic components of financial stability and security of the banking system and financial markets in Ukraine"; "The financial and credit mechanisms of convergent model of regional development in the transformation of the economic banking and non-banking sectors".
Banking Department conducts advanced training of the teaching staff qualification. Lecturers of the Department are the members of the academic councils on thesis defense.
A number of conferences were initiated and held by the Department. Among the most important ones are I, II and III International Scientific and Practical Conference "Modern trends in the banking system" (1996, 2004, and 2006). In March 2008 the Department held a round table conference on the topic "Socially oriented economy" collaborative with the lecturers in Sociology, Philosophy, Psychology of the National University in Dnipro and experts. National Scientific and Practical Conference of the Twentieth Anniversary of the Department "Strategic components of financial stability and security of the financial system and financial markets in Ukraine" takes place in 2014.

Banking Department has been preparing specialists from China, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan by the specialty of the Department more than 10 years.
Students participate in students’ exchange programs at universities in France, Germany and Poland.
2014-2015 years were distinguished by participation of the staff Department in International Scientific Projects in Poland (Poznanskyy Economic University) - Ukraine (DNU by O.Honchar) to prepare methodological support and specialists’ training of PhD level.

Educational work occupies an important place in the activity of the Department. Every year according to the tradition, tutors of the Department are introduced to freshmen, conducting individual interviews and questionnaires to identify artistic skills and talents. All students of the specialty "Banking" are involved in the celebration of the specialty "The Banker's Day". Students of banking specialty annually become the winners of numerous competitions of students’ scientific papers, national contests providing by banking institutions. Tutors attract students to participate in research activities on financial and banking directions. They run scientific coteries.
The Interuniversity Student Conference is held every year. It takes place according to the plans of the Ministry of Education in Ukraine "Modern trends in the banking system and financial markets of Ukraine". Following the results of the conference, a collection of abstracts is published and from 2011 there has been a ramdisk with a collection of abstracts. March 29, 2018, the XXIII Conference was attended by over 110 participants from 5 Universities.
