Ambassador of Sweden to Ukraine: "I look at Ukraine with optimism"

Dnipropetrovsk National University is happy to meet the Ambassador of Sweden to Ukraine Mr. Andreas von Beckerath and Defence Attache of the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine Mr. Hokan Hedstroem.

During the two years that Mr. A. von Beckerath represents the Kingdom of Sweden in our country, he travels a lot and has many meetings with university students. Therefore, in his first visit to Dnipropetrovsk Mr. Ambassador decided to visit Dnipropetrovsk National University.

During the official meeting withrector of DNU Mykola Polyakov, Mr. Andreas von Beckerath observed the activities of the largest university in the region and experienced its cooperation with universities and research institutions in Sweden. In particular, fruitful history of cooperationof Dnipropetrovsk National University with Swedish universities has begun in 2000. "During the period of 2000-2013 in order to conduct joint research, participate in conferences and international projects, DNU sent to universities and scientific institutions of Sweden 32 people. Since 2005, between our two countries there is an active cooperation in areas such as joint research, academic mobility, participation in international conferences, exchange of scientific programs and joint publications under the agreement on international cooperation with the Department of Cell Biology of Lund University"- said rector M.Polyakov.

Having an opportunity to ask the questions, DNU students were interested in experience of Sweden in the field of energy efficiency, features of Swedish society (social-democratic traditions) and foreign policy vector of the country (particularly its neutral status). However, the attention of the Swedish delegation drew the students of historical faculty of DNU on the issue about the lack of cooperation between our countries in the field of historical science. In particular, young professionals gave Mr. Ambassador an interesting proposal on the organization of translation projects (Ukrainian translations of books on the history of Sweden and vice versa), or the possible opening of schools to study Swedish language based on our university.

After the meeting with DNU students and useful communication, Ambassador Andreas von Beckerath and Mr Hokan Hedstroem headed to the military hospital of Dnipropetrovsk, which now takes the injured soldiera from the area of ATO. "As part of our government's support, we decided to provide some financial resources for the hospital. For us it is very symbolic and shows our solidarity with Ukraine. At this difficult time we are together! "- said the Ambassador.
