On September 18, a delegation from Oles Honchar Dnipro National University (DNU) held a significant meeting in Prague with the new leadership team of Charles University, one of the oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions in Europe. The Ukrainian team, led by Rector Sergiy Okovytyy (Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor), was hosted by Professor Michal Vrablík (Vice-Rector for International Relations and PhD in General Medicine) and Anna Tlamichová (International Relations Office). DNU was also represented at the meeting by Viktor Gasso (Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor) and Alla Bakhmetyeva (Head of the „UNI-press“ Information and Analytical Agency, Candidate of Sciences in Social Communications, Associate Professor).

In February 2026, Professor Jiří Zima (Doctor of Natural Sciences) assumed leadership of Charles University; he assured his Ukrainian colleagues of the university's unwavering support for Ukraine and its commitment to continuing and expanding cooperation with DNU, highlighting the highly productive nature of programs launched during the preceding four years of academic and scientific exchanges.

Among the wide range of topics discussed, Mr. Michal Vrablík emphasized the implementation of the international Erasmus+ BALANCE project, currently being carried out by a consortium comprising seven European universities and DNU. The project aims to foster active lifestyles and promote cultural interaction among young people. Rector of DNU Sergiy Okovytyy emphasized the exceptional importance of this project for Ukrainian youth, who face significant security-related restrictions on holding mass sports and cultural events due to the ongoing hostilities. The discussion focused primarily on reviewing the results of previous work and identifying new areas of cooperation that hold promise for both parties.

Developing individual grants for researchers appears to be a mutually beneficial prospect. Following previous visits by our scholars to Charles University, several international research teams have formed and have already submitted four grant applications for review.

Representatives from both universities also discussed the terms for establishing a double-degree program for PhD candidates and submitting joint projects under the Horizon program.

The agreements reached in Prague open up new opportunities for DNU students, doctoral candidates, and researchers. Combining the experience and potential of two leading universities from Ukraine and the Czech Republic strengthens the educational system and is set to lay the foundation for the future post-war recovery of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
