Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Ukraine: “You Protect All of Europe”

On October 13, a delegation of the Embassy of the Czech Republic to Ukraine visited Oles Honchar Dnipro National University. During the meeting with the university management, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and the Embassy staff discussed the prospects for scientific and academic cooperation between universities in the Czech Republic and Ukraine, as well as the participation of Czech partners in the post-war reconstruction of the Dnipropetrovsk region.

As part of the visit to Dnipro, we were visited by: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Ukraine Lubos Vesely; Deputy Ambassador, Envoy Counselor, Head of the Political and Economic Department Benjamin Zhiga; First Secretaries of the Embassy, Diplomats for Cooperation with the Dnipropetrovsk Region Vaclav Kallus and Pavel Kamenik; Project Manager of the Embassy Natalia Andreeva. The esteemed delegation was met by: Rector Sergiy Okovytyy; Acting First Vice-Rector Valentina Silich-Balgabayeva; Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work in the Field of International Cooperation Viktor Gasso; Vice-Rector for Scientific Work Oleg Marenkov; Acting Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work Natalia Guk; Vice-Rector for Legal Affairs and Development Herman Peter; Head of the Department of General Linguistics and Slavic Studies Natalia Dyachok; Head of the IAA “UNI-Press” Alla Bakhmetyeva.

The newly appointed Ambassador first got acquainted with the university and the history of our cooperation with the Czech Republic. The main stages of cooperation with educational and scientific institutions of the Czech Republic were presented by the rector. The guests learned about joint achievements – from the first agreement between DNU and the Czech Technical University in Prague in 1988-1989 to the renewal of the strategic partnership in 2022.

Since September 2022, DNU has been a co-founder of the Eastern European University Cluster (EaPUC), a consortium of 12 universities from the EU and associated countries of the Eastern Partnership, established at the initiative of Charles University (Prague) with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. Thanks to the long-term Czech government program “Strengthening the Capacity of Public Universities in Developing Countries”, together with Charles University, DNU then won competitive projects three times in a row (in 2023, 2024 and 2025). Within their framework, teachers and researchers from various faculties and research institutes of DNU took part in dozens of educational webinars, and also had the opportunity to go to Charles University for an internship and start their own cooperation with Czech professors.

Now, under the auspices of this university, we are implementing two new projects funded by the European Union: Erasmus+ KA1 (physics training for DNU students and teachers) and Erasmus+ KA2 (BALANCE project – Building Active Lifestyles and Nurturing Cultural Engagement).
