From July 7 to 9, a delegation from Oles Honchar Dnipro National University was visiting the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW, Germany). During their stay in Bochum, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between DNU and partner universities from the Alliance of Ruhr Universities (UA Ruhr).
The ceremony of signing the official document took place at the central university of the Alliance - Ruhr University, where the rector of DNU Sergiy Okovytyy and the vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work in the field of international cooperation Viktor Gasso, head of the department of Romano-Germanic philology Inga Kirkovska and others arrived to establish academic and scientific exchanges.
This event is a continuation of the international project “DniPRONrw”, created with the aim of solidarity and support by Germany of the universities of the Dnipropetrovsk region in view of the ongoing war against Ukraine and its impact on higher education and society. This project, which is important for the restoration and development of the academic potential of Ukraine, was initiated by the Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration Serhiy Lysak and is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MKW NRW). Its main task is to promote the development of academic and scientific partnership of the federal states between North Rhine-Westphalia and the Dnipropetrovsk region as a key element of regional ties and reconstruction efforts.
Currently, “DniPRONrw” involves the development of a platform through which scientists and students of the Oles Honchar Dnipro National University and the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology will be able to access educational content and materials created by German colleagues of the Ruhr University Alliance, but voiced in Ukrainian and English.
In fact, within the framework of the proposed Memorandum, Dnipro HEIs will strengthen constructive academic cooperation, knowledge exchange and institutional partnerships with three representatives of the Ruhr University Alliance: Ruhr University in Bochum, Technical University of Dortmund and University of Duisburg-Essen.
The signatories of the agreement aimed at the sustainable development of regional higher education were: Rector of the Ruhr University in Bochum, Professor Dr. Martin Paul, Rector of the University of Duisburg-Essen, Professor Dr. Barbara Albert, Rector of the Technical University of Dortmund, Professor Dr. Manfred Bayer – from the German side, and Rector of the Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, Professor Sergiy Okovytyy, and Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology, Professor Oleksandr Zaychuk – from the Ukrainian side.
