Ecology and Environmental Protection: Students of DNU Attended Summer School at the University of Sussex

Students of DNU attended a summer school at the University of Sussex – located near Brighton, UK – for the third time. This year, our British partners offered a three-week course titled „Ecology and Nature Conservation,“ open to students from major with an interest in the field.

The group included Mariia Antoniuk (Faculty of Medical Diagnostic and Rehabilitation Technologies); Anastasiia Bilan, Anastasiia Khabarova, and Yehor Marazha (Faculty of Social Sciences and International Relations); and aspiring journalist Stanislava Fesan. They attended specialized lectures delivered by faculty members from the School of Life Sciences, learned about the applied analysis of environmental data, and gained practical experience in data-driven research. During laboratory sessions, each student worked with their own laptop and used a microscope and protective gear. Participants noted that the summer school placed significant emphasis on the conventions of writing scientific papers. Each lecture featured a new speaker who presented their own research in the field of ecology.

While in the UK, our students had the opportunity to meet peers from the United States, China, Korea, Germany, Portugal, Turkey, and Switzerland who were participating in other tracks of the summer school.

The scholarship program is coordinated by the University of Sussex’s Global Programmes Team and funded by the Emergency Ukraine Students Sussex Fund, which was established to support Ukrainian students on the Sussex campus. The partnership with DNU is made possible thanks to the generosity of the British university alumni and donors who contribute to the Sussex Fund.

At DNU, the Department of International Relations and Academic Exchanges handled the organizational arrangements for the summer school participants. Before the trip, our group had to go through a lengthy British visa application process.
