Restoring Together: GEM & HGBF Window Replacement Program for DNU Dormitories

At the end of March, DNU continued efforts to eliminate the consequences of enemy shelling and restore the student campus.

With the support of international partners, damaged windows in Dormitories No. 1 and No. 3 have been replaced. As part of the window replacement program by the American 🇺🇸 organization Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) in partnership with the Howard G. Buffett Foundation (HGBF), a total of 161 new windows were installed.

Specifically:

Dormitory No. 1 – 38 new windows (total restored area: 94.4610 m²)

Dormitory No. 3 – 123 new windows (total restored area: 353.4032 m²)

Cooperation with GEM & HGBF has been ongoing for several years. In total, during 2025–2026, more than 250 windows have been installed in Dormitories No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 under this program.

“In times of hardship, the university community feels especially strongly the value of mutual support, resilience, and the ability to recover. Each completed project is not only about physical reconstruction, but above all about the strength of partnership, trust, and responsibility for the safe future of our students. Thanks to coordinated teamwork and international solidarity, we are step by step restoring our university space. We sincerely thank our partners for their support and care for the comfort and safety of DNU students,” said Rector Serhii Okovytyi.
