DNU in the Times Higher Education by Subject 2026 Ranking: Leadership in Physics and Engineering

On January 21, the results of the authoritative ranking of world universities by subjects – Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2026 – were published. In the international ranking from the British agency Times Higher Education (THE), Oles Honchar Dnipro National University has been ranked for the sixth year in a row. This year, DNU has entered the leaders of the national Subject Rankings table for the second time in two subject areas – physics and engineering.

The core methodology of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2026 covered 18 sustainable indicators in five main areas of assessment:

• teaching (reputation, student-to-staff ratio, ratio of doctoral degrees to undergraduate degrees, ratio of doctoral degrees to staff, institutional income);

• research environment (reputation, productivity and research income);

• research quality (citation impact, research power and research excellence);

• industry (income from industry partnerships and patents);

• international collaboration (number of international students and staff, proportion of scientific papers with international participation).

Oles Honchar Dnipro National University demonstrated the best indicators in such subject categories as Physical Sciences and Engineering. In these two disciplines, among all the evaluated HEIs in the world, our university was placed in the 3rd group.

Thus, the 2026 international ranking in physical sciences analyzed the performance indicators of 1497 universities from 109 countries and territories. World universities were assessed in the following main disciplines: physics, chemistry, mathematics, statistics, astronomy, geology, as well as environmental, Earth and marine sciences.

This year, 13 national higher education institutions of Ukraine were ranked based on their achievements in these disciplines. From our region, only two HEIs met the criteria for evaluating the prestigious ranking – Oles Honchar Dnipro National University and Dnipro University of Technology,

The ranking, which reveals the best engineering schools in the world, considered 1,555 universities from 98 countries and territories. The 2026 Engineering Ranking, in particular, analyzed universities in the following main disciplines: general engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, civil engineering, and chemical engineering.

The Ukrainian national table for this subject category included 14 HEIs.
