Foreign Internship at Comenius University in Bratislava: Professional and Cultural Development

A junior research associate at the Research Institute of Chemistry and Geology of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry, Kateryna Dil, completed an eight-month research internship at Comenius University (Bratislava, Slovakia).

Scientific work in the group of Professor Radovan Šebesta on a joint research project “Synthesis of New Sulfones for Biomedical Applications” with leading specialists at the Department of Organic Chemistry of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University changed Kateryna Dil’s understanding of education and science and gave her the opportunity to look at the world from a new perspective. Researchers in all developed countries strive to adhere to the 12 principles of “green chemistry”. Professor Radovan Šebesta’s Laboratory of Asymmetric Catalysis and Green Chemistry applies these principles very widely.

Kateryna lived in a dormitory for teachers and graduate students, located near the faculty, which was convenient and comfortable. The room is equipped with everything you need for study and relaxation, and the window offers a beautiful view of the mountains. Thanks to the location of the dormitory near the faculty, Kateryna could easily plan her internship and participate in university events.

She was enriched by the impressions of Slovakia, in particular, regarding relationships between people and the importance of nature and ecology. She became convinced that scientific cooperation and mutual understanding have no borders if there is a desire to learn and develop.
