The main scientific direction of the work of SRL is the development of theoretical and practical principles of the formation and functioning of hydrobiocenoses in the conditions of anthropogenic load on aquatic ecosystems for use in measures to regulate the development of aquatic bioresources and the state of aquatic ecosystems as a whole. The scientific and practical areas of SRL are: development of modes of use of water bodies; development of scientific and biological justifications; minimization of the negative impact of anthropogenic factors on water ecosystems; assessment of water quality; fisheries and aquaculture research; study of biological invasions and development of measures to minimize their negative impact; bioindication of the quality of the aquatic environment.
