Research Laboratory of the Physics of Active Dielectric Crystals

The staff of the Research Laboratory of the Physics of Active Dielectric Crystals (RLPADC) are engaged in the development and comprehensive study of the structure and properties of functional materials for defense and civilian applications. The research is conducted within the framework of the scientific school “Physics of Active Dielectric Crystals,” founded in 1988 by Professor A. Yu. Kudzin.

Technological developments at the RLPADC focus on:

  • the growth, using the Czochralski method, of complex-oxide crystals, including scintillators Bi₄Ge(Si)₃O₁₂; acousto-optic crystals TeO₂, PbMoO₄, and Pb₂MoO₅; pyroelectrics Pb₅Ge₃O₁₁; photorefractive materials Bi₁₂Ge(Si)O₂₀, BaTiO₃, LiNbO₃, and KNbO₃; relaxor ferroelectrics Pb₃MgNb₂O₉ and NaBiTi₂O₆; weakly polar ferroelectrics Li₂Ge₇O₁₅; and others;
  • the development of amorphous and nanostructured glass-ceramic dielectric materials;
  • the deposition of thin films, multilayer structures, quantum-confined semiconductor and dielectric structures, and superlattices.

The main research methods employed at the laboratory include:

  • X-ray phase analysis;
  • differential scanning calorimetry;
  • dielectric and impedance spectroscopy;
  • optical spectroscopy;
  • electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR).
