Strong Universities for Strong Europe

Dnipropetrovsk National University hosted the delegation of Polish universities. The result of the discussion of prospects of cooperation between universities in Poland and Ukraine was the signed Agreement between DNU and Silesian University in Katowice. This agreement is the twelfth for DNU with Polish universities.

Polish researchers, namely the President of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland, Rector of the University of Silesia in Katowice Professor Wieslaw Banisz, Vice Rector for Academic Studies of Bialystok University professor Jerzy Halitski and Vice Rector for Academics of Warsaw University of Science professor Bogdan Klepatski noted that they were pleased to be in Dnepropetrovsk. The main purpose of their visit to Ukraine, as they consider, is intensifying of cooperation between the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland and Ukrainian Universities under the European University Association. "In fact, there are many topics for discussion, such as processing and production of various projects for future research, - said the President of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland Wieslaw Banisz. - I am pleased that Ukraine can participate and enjoy financial support under the "Horizon 2020", that together with universities in Poland, France and Germany to work on important tasks. We have to work together over that problems, which today are called challenges, among them - security, bioenergy, nanotechnology, space exploration." Representatives of Polish universities are convinced that together with Ukrainian colleagues thay can quickly find answers to these challenges.

Polish colleagues also aspire Ukrainian educators to share their experiences in terms of implementation of the Bologna process. "I think that soon there will be triple diplomas. But this issue needs analysis, since our higher education system and legal framework uniform - said Wieslaw Banysh. - There are many other specific joint objectives, one of which is to study and bring to the Governments of our countries the idea that our countries should sign a strategic agreement, the main component of which is to have cooperation in the field of higher education. Moreover, we are in the European Union and are building European space of higher education. I cannot imagine that it could happen without Ukraine."

Rector of Dnipropetrovsk National University Mykola Poliakov thanked for the visit of Polish colleagues. "DNU more than twenty years is working closely with Polish universities - said rector. - Nowadays there are eleven agreements, including the ones with the University Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, Technical University of Lodz, Warsaw University, Wroclaw University, University of Lodz, Higher School of Economy and Innovation. Students and staff of DNU constantly study and participate in open air, international studies and carry out joint research work in various educational and research institutions in Poland. In turn, over the years DNU hosts delegations from universities of Poland. I wish to draw attention to our common achievements such as dual diplomas and protection of dissertations, writing books, within the frames of European programs and projects. "

The results of fruitful and active cooperation with Polish universities were presented by deans and heads of departments of DNU. Thus, cooperation with the Polish educational and scientific institutions began in 1994 when the Department of Optoelectronics of DNU established scientific links with the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences. On the basis of historical faculty and Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology and Art of DNU there works Ukrainian-Polish center of Dnipropetrovsk, which develops and deepens ties with universities and scientific institutions in Poland. Every year a group of students and teachers of DNU field of study "Visual Arts" are participating in the open air, held by University Maria Curie-Sklodowska. In the summer of 2014 at the DNU there was a joint Ukraine-Polish archaeological expedition to Novobohorodytska fortress with students and faculty of the University of Wroclaw.

The offers of cooperation with the Polish educational institutions offered representatives of other higher education institutions of Dnipropetrovsk. Polish guests congratulated the Chairman of Rectors of Dnipropetrovsk region, Professor Alexander Velichko.

The guests also visited the Holocaust Museum and the National Center for Aerospace Education of Youth.
